Why did God make this distinction?
I was surprised! One day I was reading in the Old Scriptures and read the phrase mingled people. So I opened a Bible program and made a list of verses that included that phrase. Before I was done I used the search "mix or mingle or mixed or mingled". To say the least I was amazed. The phrase "You've got to be kidding!" went through my mind at least a couple of times. But then I remembered hearing a verse having to do with separation and that verse is at the end of the list. Well, You will just have to read these verses to see why I was surprised.
Why did God make this distinction? Watch for words in bold type.
Exodus 12:38 And also a mixed multitude went up with them, and flocks, and herds, very much cattle.
Leviticus 19:19 You shall keep My statutes. You shall not let your cattle breed with different kinds. You shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed. And you shall not allow clothing mixed of linen and wool to come on you.
Numbers 11:4 And the mixed multitude in their midst lusted with great lust. And the sons of Israel also turned and wept, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
Deuteronomy 22:9-11 You shall not sow your vineyard with different kinds of seeds, lest the fruit of your seed which you have sown and the fruit of your vineyard be defiled.
10 You shall not plow with an ox and an ass together.
11 You shall not wear a garment of different kinds, of wool and linen together.
Ezra 9:2 For they have taken of their daughters for themselves and for their sons. So the holy seed has mixed themselves with the people of those lands. Yes, the hand of the leaders and overseers has been chief in this sin.
Nehemiah 7:64 These sought their register among those who were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found. Therefore they were put out, as defiled from the priesthood.
Nehemiah 13:3 And it happened when they had heard the Law, they separated all the mixed multitude from Israel.
Psalms 106:35 "but were mixed among the nations, and learned their works."
Proverbs 20:19 A gossip is a revealer of secrets; so do not mix with him who flatters with his lips.
Jeremiah 25:20 "all the mixed people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the rest of Ashdod;"
Jeremiah 25:24 "and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mixed people who dwell in the desert
Jeremiah 50:37 A sword is on their horses and their chariots, and on all the mixed people in her midst; and they shall become as women. A sword is to her treasuries, and they shall be robbed.
Ezekiel 30:5 Cush, and Libya, and Lydia, and all the mixed people; and Chub, and the men of the land who are in covenant with them shall fall by the sword.
Daniel 2:41 And as to that which you saw: the feet and toes, part of potters' clay and part of iron; the kingdom shall be divided. But there shall be in it the strength of the iron, because you saw the iron mixed with miry clay.
Daniel 2:43 And as you saw iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mix themselves with the seed of men. But they shall not cling to one another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
Hosea 7:8 Ephraim mixed himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned.
Philippians 2:15 That you may be blameless and unmixed, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the middle of a crooked and perverse race, among whom you shine as lights in the world.
Jude 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
(Amos 9:9 For lo, I will command, and I will shake the house of Israel among all the nations, as one shakes with a sieve, yet not a grain shall fall to the earth.)
I was very surprised by what I read. It is amazing what one can discover with the use of a computer. There will probably be some of you who are very surprised and perhaps upset by this. It does not go along with what we have been taught from our churches. Now look at what is in the next few verses of scripture. This is Yahweh, our God who does not change, speaking to Israel, his special treasure, through Moses.
Leviticus 20:22-23 You shall therefore keep all My statutes and all My judgments, and do them, so that the land where I bring you to live shall not spit you out.
23 And you shall not walk in the ways of the nation which I cast out before you. For they committed all these things, and therefore I loathed them.
(Moses had just finished teaching them about many sins the people should avoid.)
Leviticus 20:24 But I have said to you, You shall inherit their land, and I, I am giving it to you to possess it, a land that flows with milk and honey. I am Yahweh your God, who has separated you from the nations.
25 And you shall make a difference between clean animals and unclean, and between unclean fowls and clean. And you shall not defile your souls by beast, or by fowl, or by any kind of living thing that creeps on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean.
26 And you shall be holy to Me. For I, Yahweh, am holy, and have severed you from the nations, so that you should be Mine.
We know that God does not change, (Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8), nor does He make a mistake. God's ways are better than man's ways. He had an important reason for not only including these verses in the Bible, but for our learning something from them. It is my understanding that what we have just read has a part in the 7th Commandment: Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery (Adulteration, to mix, miscegenation).
1 Peter 1:16b "You shall be holy; for I am holy."
Here is the Strongs meaning of the word holy. "sacred (physically pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially consecrated)"
I think being politically correct is not scriptural. What do you think?
2 Corinthians 6:14-18
"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate (set off by boundary), saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty."
